Wavelink Industrial Browser (WIB) viewing / visual issues

Environment:

Wavelink Industrial Browser 7.0.x - 7.3.x

TelnetCE 7.0.x - 7.3.x running WEB Emulation

NOTE: TelnetCE connect to a host via WEB Emulation is the same as using 'Wavelink Industrial Browser'. Different ways of saying the same thing.

IMPORTANT TROUBLESHOOTING QUESTION:

Does the application appear / function correctly when you use the Pocket IE on your device?

  • If NO, then this is not a Wavelink related issue.
    WIB is built on top of Pocket IE. If it doesn't work in Pocket IE, then it will not work in Wavelink Industrial Browser (WIB). The next step should be to work together with your application / server development team to discover why Pocket IE is having issues. Once those issues are resolved, then the issues will likely be resolved within WIB.

  • If YES, then keep reading (specifically check out the WEB Engine Type section)

Problem/Issue:

  • Pocket Internet Explorer (Pocket IE) works correctly, but the same page appears incorrectly when using Wavelink Industrial Browser (WIB)
  • Wavelink Industrial Browser (WIB) doesn't look and/or work the same as connecting to the host using Pocket Internet Explorer
  • WIB receives a javascript error when connecting to the Emulation session
  • My web page appears incorrect / wrong when using WIB
  • Visual / viewing issues / problems with SAP ITS Mobile application
  • WIB consumes memory continuously with WEB Engine Type set to Enhanced (default)

Resolution:

  • WEB Alternate Browser Support (Windows Mobile Devices Only)
  • WEB Engine Type
  • WEB User Agent

WEB Alternate Browser

  • If it is a device running Windows Mobile, then set WEB Alternate Browser Support to 'Enabled'
    • This setting will attempt to use an alternate browser engine, if one is available on the device.  Currently, only Windows Mobile 6.x devices may have this support, where the build-in Internet Explorer may use a different browser engine than Wavelink uses.

      WEB_AlternateBrowser.PNG

WEB Engine Type

    • The "Enhanced" engine is required to support several features.  These include:
      • Host Profile proxy settings (Internet Explorer values are used)
      • Host Profile Access List
      • Disable compression
      • Disable cookies
      • Local error messages
      • HTTP version (Internet Explorer values are used)
      • User Agent  (Internet Explorer values are used)
      • Inserting text into the web page
    • However, in some situations, the enhanced engine may cause web pages to load slowly or incorrectly.  If you are having difficulties accessing a web site, selecting the "Standard" engine type may help.
      NOTE: If your Website or Web Application works correctly in Pocket IE, but does not work in default Wavelink Industrial Browser (WIB) then you should definitely try switching the WEB Engine Type to Standard

      WEB_EngineType.PNG

WEB User Agent

    • This setting allows you to specify the "User-Agent" value that is included with the HTTP header information sent by the device.  This value is used by the Web Server to determine what type of browser is being run by the device.  Changing this option allows the Web Server to uniquely identify devices running Wavelink WEB emulation.
    • If no value is specified, the User Agent value will be the value that Internet Explorer or Pocket Internet Explorer would use on that device.  The typical default values are listed below.
      • Pocket PC 2003 and Windows Mobile 5:
        •     Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows CE; PPC; 240x320)
      • Windows CE .NET:
        •     Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE)

    • WEB_UserAgent.PNG
      • For CE Devices, try using the following:
        • Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE)
      • For Windows Mobile devices, try using:
        • Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows CE; PPC; 240x320)
      • Other WEB User Agents that have fixed issues:
        • Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; Trident/4.0; GTB7.5; SLCC2; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET CLR 3.0.30729; Media Center PC 6.0; BRI/1; MS-RTC EA 2; MALC)

Installing Telnet Client on a Mobile Device using Active Sync

To install and run Telnet Client, you need the following components:

A host computer with Windows Mobile Device Center, or Microsoft ActiveSync 3.7 or newer

A mobile device with a connection to the computer.

The Telnet Client installation file saved to the host computer it should appear under Programs as Wavelink TelnetCE folder and in there you should have your TE Client install. Please make sure that you have the right Telnet Client for your device.

To install the Telnet Client using ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center:

1. Connect the device to the host computer and verify the connection was successful.

2. Double-click on the Wavelink TelnetCE.

Wavelink Product Configuration should launch on your desktop see picture below:

3. Configure the Host Profile Settings by clicking on Host Profile. The Host Profile Settings has a lot of configurations available as you need.

4. Configure the Emulation Parameters by selecting Emulation Parameters. The Emulation Parameters provides emulation options.  Use the tree structure on the Folders to navigate the available options.

You should see something like this:

5. When you are done with the Emulation Settings and Host Profile etc. save the changes and still with the device connected to the host computer click on Application & Config. You can also use Application only if you only want TE Client installed on the device without configuration.  The Config Only option is used to make changes on the settings once the TE client is already installed on the device.

6. Click Yes to install the Client in the default directory, or browse to the location where you want to install the Client.

The TE is downloaded to the device. After the download is complete, a dialog box appears, requesting that you check your mobile device to see whether additional steps are necessary to install the TE Client.

7. If required, perform any additional steps on the mobile device.

8. In the installer, click OK to complete the download process.

9. In the installer, click Finish to complete the installation process

Environment: Intermec devices (example: CK71 WM6.5, CK3X WM6.5) with integrated scanner using an external scanner (BT, Serial). TelnetCE (v7.3.189 and older) clients.

Problem: With scanner connected to the device, and working, when the TelnetCE is launched the scanner stops working (no Beam while in TE).

Cause: Devices do not have everything that TE needs to see the external scanner.

Solution/Workaround: New TelnetCE build was created (needs to be v7.3.216 – Newer). Also you will need to add a registry to the device for the TelnetCE client see the external scanner.

Here is the registry that needs to be added to the devices needing the External Scanner.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wavelink\TelnetCE\Scanner] "IntermecDeviceName"="AllScanners"

You will need to reboot the device after adding the registry.

You will not be able to switch back and forth between the Integrated and External scanners. You need to choose one or the other.

Environment:

Universal Telnet Client v7.3.140,

Honeywell Thor (VM1 VM2 VM3)

Windows XP device, External Scanner, with the FreeFloat*One Scanwedge program on the device.

Windows 7 Embedded

Problem / Issue:

When scanning in the Telnet client, the scan of the barcode adds extra characters. Putting in characters between the actual barcodes characters.

Cause:

Device has no scanner built in the device, so you will need to configure the scanner for the Telnet. In the configurations there is an option for setting up com ports.

Solution:

ComPort.JPG

Here are steps to allow the external scanner to work while in Telnet.

  1. 1) Turn Off (“Unload”) the currently running FreeFloat Link*One Wedge Application
  2. 2) Set the following Emulation Parameters
    1. a.       Com Port -> Com Port Ignore Nulls -> Yes
    2. b.      Com Port -> Com Port for IO -> Left at COM1
    3. c.       Com Port -> Com Port Mode -> Scanner
    4. d.      Com Port -> Com Port Parity Mask -> 7F
    5. e.      Com Port -> Use Com Input/Output ->Yes
    6. f. Emulation->Keyboard->Sticky Keys -> No
  3. 3) Plug the scanner into the COM1 Port
  4. 4) Restart the Thor so that it recognizes the COM Device

For the Bluetooth scanners I had to perform the following additional steps

  1. 5) Scan the “Cradle Host” bar code from the DS3578 Reference guide to force the scanner to try and pair with a cradle
  2. 6) Scan the Pairing bar code on the cradle to Pair the scanner
  3. 7) Plug one of DS3508 (tethered scanner)’s cable into the Bluetooth cradle,  with the other end in the COM1 port of the Thor
  4. 8) Restart the Thor so that it recognizes the COM device (not hot-swappable)

What's the difference between Terminal Emulation 2 in 1 and 4 in 1 license. Web Emulation license.

$
0
0

Description

When you register for a  specific emulation type

The 2 in 1 will ask you to register for a specific emulation type (VT/HP or IBMHOST)

The 2 in 1 can work for either, but you have to select which you you will be using when you register the license.

The 4 in 1 will work for both, and does not ask you to select which emulation type you will use.

The "4in1" Telnet client refers to a single product or client that can support 4 diffferent emulation types.   The "4in1" can support VT/HP AND IBM 3270/5250.  The "2in1" supports VT/HP OR IBM 3270/5250 types of emulation.  When you order you order either types and when you go to register your license you can pick the desired emulation types in the case where you ordered the "2in1".

Each telnet client can support up to 4 emulation sessions.   Therefore, if you bought the "4in1" it can support all 4 emulation sessions simultaneously if that is needed.   The "2in1" can support 4 emulation sessions as well but limited to the types of emulation you chose (either VT/HP or 3270/5250).

Terminal Emulation license:

The Ivanti Web Store. Emulation

The TelnetCE licenses (TN 2 in 1 or TN 4 in 1) do not allow WEB Emulation. You must purchase a separate license for this type of emulation.

You need a license for WEB emulation:

The Ivanti Web Store. Industrial Browser (License)https://store.wavelink.com/industrial-browser

Summary

We have 3 types of licenses in total for product Telnet CE = Wavelink Industrial Browser:

- 2 in 1 license

- 4 in 1 license

- WEB license

Scripting - Enable / Disable integrated scanner / RFID / Escape Sequences

$
0
0

Environment:

TelnetCE 7.2.x to 7.3.x

The following scripts will allow for the scanner to be turned on or off. Be careful when using these scripts.. if you turn off the scanner do not forget to turn it back on.

* These methods do not work for BT scanners. for BT scanners you need to create a script to intercept the scanned data before it is printed to the screen

Disable Scanner:

Script( Scanner_Disable )

Activate( From_Menu )

    Escape_Sequence( "%0S" )
    Return

Enable Scanner:

Script( Scanner_Enable )

Activate( From_Menu )

    Escape_Sequence( "%1S" )
    Return

Enable scan Trigger:

Script( ScanTrigger_Enable )
Activate( From_Menu )

    Escape_Sequence( "%6;1S" )
    Return

Disable Scan Trigger:

Script( ScanTrigger_Enable )
Activate( From_Menu )

    Escape_Sequence( "%6;0S" )
    Return

This type of script is normally used in conjunction with the Screen Reformatter to better handle of when to enable / disable the scanner on particular screens.

Escape Sequence defined:

Sets the scanner to be enabled/disabled after successful scans, where Pb is the bar code type scanned and Ps is the scanner setting to be set:

Pb=0  After no scans (Ps ignored); disables mode

Pb=1  After all scans

Pb=2  After 1-D bar code scans

Pb=3  After 2-D bar code scans

Pb=4  Return current setting (Ps ignored).  Returns:

          ESC % ? <type> ; <setting> A

Ps=0  Set mode off

Ps=1  Set mode on

Soft Trigger:

Pn=6  Soft Trigger.  Disable 6 trigger.

Pn=6  Soft Trigger.  Enable soft trigger.

Example:

ESC % 6 ; 0 S

ESC % 6 ; 1 S

Custom Sequence:

ESC % Pb ; Ps A

RFID Enable and Disable:

Format: ESC $ Pe ; Pr R

PE=0 Disable RFID

Pe=1 Enable RFID

Pe=2 Don't change RFID state

Pr=0 Don't return new state

Pr=1 Return new state

if Pr=1, it returns ESC $ Pe R

Where Pe=0 if the RFID reader is disabled, or Pe=1 if the RFID reader is enabled

(The command ESC $ 2; 0 R is valid, but will do nothing)
